Dear Sue, an excellent second stage to your series. However, several essential factors are missing, perhaps they will be addressed in forthcoming sequels.

One is the reality of reproductive demographics, a global issue but with important aspects in the United States. With dramatically decreasing birthrates since abortion became a norm, the United States lacks an adequate tax and social security paying base among the young to support an aging population. That is true in most of the “developed world”. The reality is that it’s hard to find a better solution to that issue than through immigration, albeit not uncontrolled “chain” immigration. The issue of “birthright citizenship” also merits consideration as it has indeed been an inducement to illegal immigration by expectant mothers.

An additional factor that merits consideration in the United States and Europe is the impact of ludicrous state-destroying wars on the flood of refugees and where responsibility should lie for the resulting tens, perhaps hundreds of millions of displaced persons. In the case of the United States, the “Monroe Doctrine” has been used to metaphysically justify interventions all over the continent and those interventions have resulted in violence and economic devastation with a resulting flood of refugees. Most recently, the stupidity of the Obama administration and its secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, both in the Eastern and Western Hemispheres, have generated a flood of refugees (e.g., as a result of the US backed coups in Honduras and Haiti, and, of course, although primarily impacting Europe, the manufactured civil wars in Libya and Syria) the GOP also bears responsibility for its invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, etc.

All of the foregoing are essential factors in analyzing the immigration crisis we face today and need careful rather than emotional consideration in order to craft appropriate solutions, solutions which, in my opinion, may require constitutional as well as legislative reforms.

Thank you for your great work!

Finally! So glad to see someone cover this. I went on a search to figure it out myself about a year ago and have been screaming for an override or a repeal of Hart-Celler ever since.
