So much to digest in this excellent letter that I hope will be published in many newspapers. The big lie is that Biden was not suffering cognitive decline and that should make everyone think about how “great” we are being told that Kamala is. Her border czar job was an epic fail. You can hear her say how progressive her thinking is. Not what America needs right now.

We all wish we had better choices but here we are.

Sue, I respect you quite a bit, but I take issue with you here. You are justifiably against Kamala being "anointed," yet here you are proclaiming Trump to be the "leader" of the "eyes wide open" movement. Sorry, but my eyes are pretty wide open, and I see RFK, Jr. as being the most legitimate leader of that movement -- to the extent that we should be focused on a single "leader" to save us at all. Trump is, and always has been, about whatever promotes the interests of Donald Trump, first and foremost.

Trump promised to drain the swamp, and yet he appointed Deep State denizens like Mike Pompeo and John Bolton to head the State Department, as well as:

• Shipping heiress Elaine Chao to run the Department of Transportation

• Coal lobbyist Andrew Wheeler to run the EPA

• Pharma Exec Alexander Azar to run HHS

• Oil Lobbyist Ryan Zinke to run the Department of the Interior

He did nothing to stop the military-industrial complex, but expanded it just like his predecessors. He committed illegal acts of military aggression against Syria and ordered the murder of General Soleimani in Iraq in flagrant violation of international law. He is a big friend to Big Pharma. He put Anthony Fauci in charge of the COVID response, imposed lockdowns and pushed an experimental RNA "vaccine" on the American people. He betrayed opponents of sending more billions of dollars to Ukraine -- see, e.g., https://www.mtracey.net/p/never-forget-that-donald-trump-snookered and https://www.mtracey.net/p/trump-being-a-convicted-felon-does.

I would urge readers to visit the https://www.kennedy24.com/ website and look at RFK, Jr.'s actual policy prescriptions, rather than the corporate media's deceptive "spin" about him and vote for the most principled leader of the "eyes wide open" movement.

Hi Richard, I hope you are doing well. We are left with horrible choices this election, as usual. With all his negatives Trump seems to me like the best option. As someone said, Trump is a crap shoot but Biden (now Harris) is national suicide. I haven’t been a fan of RFK due to some of his policies. At heart I am a free market girl with reasonable protective constraints. After I check out the info you recommended will reply more completely.

I agree with you re: RFK Jr.

At heart, he is a Democrat with liberal inclinations. Definitely smarter than most Dems, but impulsively liberal. And, at this particular moment in our country's evolution, we need a strong, grounded, fearless leader. Trump has these qualities.

I would prefer, as you do, to see a more serious, intelligent Trump. I'm certain he's somewhere in there, perhaps waiting to get shot at to surface.

He was as surprised as many to win in 2020, and was not prepared to govern. This is 2024. He's had time to think and prepare. I can only hope he does, and that if given a second chance, will be the populist leader he should have been in his first 4 years.

Richard, you have allowed yourself to be gaslit by the Democrats & MSM.

Yes, Trump failed to drain the swamp but who expected the entire Deep State to rise up against him? No one, not in a million years. They waged scorched earth warfare against.

However, Trump did succeed in exposing just how thoroughly corrupt and entrenched the Deep State is. This time he will not be so trusting. He will appoint people he can trust.

RFK Jr is a wimp liberal at heart. The only thing he got right was exposing the little rat Tony Fraudci who should be serving time for crimes against humanity.

On everything else, he's just another useless Democrat who will push the same bad ideas.

BTW, don't mistake me for a Republican. I am a disillusioned Democrat albeit technically an Independent.

Number one, I have never been a Democrat, and I am a longtime critic of the corporate media.

Second, the Deep State attack against Trump began well before the 2016 election, with the false accusations of a Russian connection beginning in mid-summer. So yes, I expected the Deep State to rise against him. A lot of people could see that coming, such as the journalists at Consortium News.

I don't mind substantive criticism, but all you have done is make baseless accusations -- me being "gaslit" -- and indulge in name-calling, describing one of the biggest critics of the Deep State AND the corporate media AND the censorship industrial complex AND Big Pharma AND the military-industrial-Congressional complex as a "wimp."

Meanwhile, you take it as an article of faith that Trump will do better this time, based on no evidence, at least not any evidence that you presented.

Let me know when you're ready to make a substantive argument. This sure wasn't one.

I take it you took umbrage with parts of my reply.

Re the Deep State's war on Trump, I have never seen anything like it in my life. Yes, we all knew that they would fight him tooth and nail, but never to the extent we witnessed. They went from smearing him to impeaching him to rigging the 2020 election to framing him with bogus crimes to finally trying to kill him. The monsters fighting him are pure evil. (FYI, I was telling friends last year that they would try to assassinate him if he was still leading in the polls as we neared the election.)

So it's not a simple article of faith to believe that this has toughened Trump up. At this point, he's probably the toughest SOB alive. More importantly, he's leraned his lessons the hard way and he's pissed.

RFK Jr is weak tea compared to Trump. He's just a bit more credible than Williamson and Stein. Do you think he would stop the Dem mission to disarm the public? Do you think he would put a stop to all the DEI insanity that has replaced meritocracy with racial quotas leading to mediocrity? Re corporate media, Trump has been at war with it for many years while RFK has sat on the sidelines offering the occasional criticisms.

What Dem lunacy do you think he would put a stop to?

Moreover, any adult male who's swallowed the Global Warming hoax automatically destroys his own credibility.

I actually bounced the idea off friends last year about Trump picking him as his VP but that would have provided the Dems with even more incentive to kill Trump. However, since both are now seen as party outsiders, it could make sense to find a way to cooperate with him after Trump (hopefully) returns to the WH.

Sorry bud, but I can only see RKF folding in the face of opposition.

RFK has faced down the opposition for his entire life and won battles against major forces. He isn't even close to a "wimp".

Hoping that a politician will "do better this time" is a weak justification for voting for them. Both Trump and RFK have have had incredible forces turned against them.

RFK has more for going for him than just medical freedom. Being opposed to war is another major plus. Also seriously look at his position on the climate. RFK does not promote the "climate crisis" narrative, he clearly focuses on pollution. RFK does not oppose using petroleum fuels.

Trump has become very worrisome by choosing a VP candidate who comes from the "security state". We don't need more "big brother" trying to control us.

Either of them are a million times better than what the Democrats are pushing.

YourUnclePedro's avatar

>Hoping that a politician will "do better this time" is a weak justification for voting for them.

I happen to believe that people can learn from their mistakes. Trump's biggest mistake the first time around was that he was too trusting. Few of us realized back then that the opposition would gladly sabotage the entire country to hurt if it led to hurting him.

Despite his trust-related problems, he was a great president.

As Schumer once explained, Trump's biggest mistake was openly stating that he was going to dismantle the CIA, FBI, and other spook agencies. As he put it, "They have six ways to Sunday of screwing you."

The surveillance state is a major issue for me and I have been writing about it for several years on another forum. Regrettably, I can't see how the total loss of our privacy can be stopped as it's technology-driven more so than politically driven. Every time a company comes up with a new way to spy on us the politicians feel compelled to buy it lest they are blamed later for not taking sufficient steps to protect us proles.

I am open to learning more about RFK, Trump giving him a senior position would help draw the Dems back to the center.

>Either of them are a million times better than what the Democrats are pushing.

Concurred. Indubitably.

Expand full comment
John Wright's avatar

It would be *very* interesting to have a strong collaboration between RFK and Trump!

Yes, I'm in agreement that the loss of privacy and rise of the surveillance state isn't just a political thing. One of our great problems are the mega corporations and the power they wield! Does it matter if Biden or Zuckerberg orders censorship? The result is the same, regardless of who requested it. If Google manipulates the population's view by eliminating search prompting related to the assassination attempt on Trump is that any less of a problem because Google isn't officially the government?

So a huge question is: If Trump is elected again, will he really make any substantial change or is he simply "better" than the alternative?

"He can't win" is a very lame argument against voting for a third party candidate. It's a major reason why we are stuck with the two corrupt parties. Make no mistake, BOTH parties are seriously not working for the typical citizen!

Ross Perot made a respectable showing. If we want to continue to make progress at replacing the corrupt parties with a more middle ground, we need to take advantage of the best opportunity we've had in *decades*! If not *now* then we might as well kiss our asses goodbye and usher in more tyranny.

As I see it the contest isn’t between Trump and Harris/Biden but between Trump and the democrat party’s election machine. Combine Tammany Hall with Hollywood, most of the media, public unions, big-money, and the deep/IC state - That’s what Trump is up against; and he doesn’t have near enough help. And yet, it’s so important that he wins. All the Dems want is to win, even if they have to turn to child-molesters for assistance. Asking Trump appeal to the center is so 2015-2016. Time after time people said he’d act more presidential. It’s been nearly a decade, he is who he is. And that is a perpetually lying, criminal, cult leader whose MO is to divide this country.

Hi Nate, thanks for your thoughts. Yes I agree the chances of him reading it are slim to none but I have to try. I am not asking him to come to the middle but to stop turning voters off with his ill conceived comments. Will he do that? About a 5% chance. I don't believe he is a cult leader. IMO folks who suggest this do not understand why he was nominated and won in 2016. Will do a future blog on that! While he might be a criminal, we certainly do not come to that knowledge through the indictments leveled against him. The perfectly timed and coordinated indictments were election strategy IMO to get him nominated because he can be beat. No question Trump lies and exaggerates. He is also divisive but I would ask you to consider what his Presidency would have looked like if the Russian collusion lie had not been launched. That was the most divisive political operation we have seen and did much to divide this country and turn people against Trump. My preference would have been a fresh face so we could start putting this country back together again. The voters chose otherwise. At least for Trump, the voters chose him as compared to Biden and Harris...

I agree with much of what you’ve said but would add the following.

1. President Trump has had FOUR YEARS to build his team of top advisors on the economy, border/homeland security, foreign affairs. Four years to be an Executive studying the details, developing specific critcisms, and plans for how to reduce inflation, deal with the housing crisis, address retirees and people approaching retirement who now are facing costs 20-30% higher than they had planned, letting people in their 20s and 30s what he will do to enable them to out-earn their debt and inflation, buy homes build families, and accumulate wealth during their lives. Articulate how Americans can lead healthier lives and have manageable health care costs. Let the forgotten people in so many non-coastal small towns that there is a roadmap for them also sharing in the nation’s prosperity. Letting our urban poor, who are not just black, that Cities will need to be re-thought so that they are safer and can provide economic opportunity so they too can have excellent schools and economic opportunity. Regarding the Open Border - explain the cost and blame on Biden-Harris, but also explain how we can humanely prioritize who should remain and how more than 10 million can be sent back to their home country. Be as specific as possible.

2. No more references to Chris Christie, or listing grievances about who has tried to stop you or hurt you in the past. Nothing about Mueller, Don’t mention Hillary Clinton or Barrack Obama. Don’t even talk about the 2016 or 2020 Elections or Janaury 6. Talking about the past is NOT what America wants to talk about. We want to talk about the future, and have hope again, and confidence that their is someone to vote for that will change their lives for the better.

3. And no more personal insults about Harris or Walz.

4. Ignore the pundits who incorrectly say Trump has a personality problem, so half of America won’t vote for you no matter what, and that Harris has a policy problem, which needs to be explained. Act like you’ve been a thoughtful observer for 4 years and know what needs to be done to turn our country around. Do that and THAT will be your personality. People who cringe when you call Chris Christie fat will vote for you if you act like a well-prepared, calm but forceful executive who knows what needs to get done.

Excellent letter and all very valid points. In many respects, Mr. Trump is sometimes his own worse enemy, but at least what you see is what you get, this is something you cannot say about most politicians. He is not a politician and perhaps does not feel the need to behave like one. Yes, his behavior may turn off some voters, but they were most likely looking for reasons not to vote for him. Any voter that does not consider voting for the person whose policies would help them the most does maybe willfully ignorant of what the outcome will be. Voters seem to have a propensity to vote against their own best interests. And, people will not take the time to research the issues but believe what the MSM feeds them.
